Accompaniment, or collaborative piano is having a skilled pianist to support one or more instrumentalists or singers. All AMEB instrumental exams past first grade require a pianist to accompany every piece with a written accompaniment. Some accompanists, including Marcy can provide coaching for instrumentalists including setting mock exams and testing related examined skills such as aural or sightreading.
Having an accompanist with rehearsals is vitally important to understanding completely how a piece of music works together as an ensemble. Playing an instrument solo and playing with piano accompaniment often give a piece an entirely different feel. It is crucial in exams to have a skilled accompanist who understands the music to follow and work in unison with the soloist.
